Consumer Products and Services
Meeting customer needs
We work with organisations within the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector in its broadest sense: food and beverages, consumer durables, personal care and cosmetics, luxury brands, household goods, sports goods, apparel, luxury brands, textiles and furnishings. We also assist retailers including store multiples and department stores, multi-channel operations, online retailers, mail order and TV shopping channels.
Food manufacturers are under lots of cost pressures, set against a climate of generally rising commodity prices. Big grocery multiples such as Tesco continue to perform well, as are some of the discount chains such as Lidl. Furthermore, a number of large supermarket chains are finding their profits being boosted by increased spending on their budget or value lines of produce. For example, Sainsburys reported in Spring 2009 that spending on its cheaper ‘Basics’ range of goods rose by 60 per cent in January 2009, year on year.
Spending on consumer durables such as home computers, dishwashers, tumble dryers and microwave ovens is being cut back to some extent as consumers evaluate the necessity to buy or replace these items. Nevertheless, there are many bright spots, particularly at both the lower budget and luxury ends of the market.
Luxury brands, being bought by high net worth individuals, are well placed to weather any economic downturn. At Artemis, we have placed many elite professionals in rewarding jobs in this sector.
Lots of companies are restructuring at present, which is fuelling an increasing number of mergers and acquisitions. This inevitably creates opportunities for skilled and talented managers and directors.
The growing trend towards online retailing also calls for more managers experienced in this area. Companies well grounded in such operations are doing well, aided by an increasingly efficient and customer-friendly buying experience. More businesses are adding or expanding online divisions.
All of these trends mean that there are plenty of opportunities in this sector – but also considerable demand for genuinely outstanding people. We go the extra mile to find you people who can make a real difference to your business.
