Information, Communications and Entertainment

Knowledge is power

Cable services, cellular and wireless services, wireless equipment, broadcast/new media, entertainment, Internet, network and data networking equipment, satellite based services and telecommunications form a rich and varied sector.

The current emphasis is very much on leaner service delivery. The growing trend for home-working, aided by ever better technology, is also creating some more opportunities. This of course represents good news for skilled workers with family or caring commitments, who require the flexibility  to work from home.

In the sector in general, candidates with greater mobility or flexibility of residence can improve their chances of career moves. In particular, the M4 corridor contains many burgeoning businesses in this sector; we estimate that moving to this area would treble the chances of employment for a typical talented and skilled individual.

Furthermore, there are many opportunities for highly skilled individuals in the sector. Many vacancies remain unfilled due to insufficient skills: for example, only 27 per cent of personnel working in this sector are graduates, and of these, only two-thirds have degrees gained in information, communications and entertainment fields.

In entertainment, the buzz areas are streaming music where demand for this type of product remains strong; and also major broadcasters such as the BBC. We have excellent contacts in this market, both with companies looking to fill challenging and exciting roles, and with the talent pool.
