TfL demands rebids for £500m construction job
December 2009
A multimillion pound construction job in central London is still up for grabs, it has emerged.
Transport for London (TfL) was expected to announce a winner for its £500 million regeneration project on Tottenham Court Road this month but the organisation has made a u-turn, asking contractors to revise their bids.
Financial issues are said to be the cause behind the decision, the Contract Journal reported.
“Changes to the scope of the project include the replacement of existing escalators, management of Oxford Street utilities settlement mitigation works and changes to some aspects of the design to facilitate a more advantageous future over site development,” a TfL spokesperson told the publication.
“Significant progress at the Tottenham Court Road site continues to be made.”
The TfL spokesperson added that the winning contractor will be announced by the end of the year.
Balfour Beatty, Morgan Est, Taylor Woodrow and a joint venture between Skanska and Mace are all competing for the contract, along with a joint bid from Costain, Laing O’Rourke, Bachy and Soletanche.
