BP and Petra expand solar partnership
November 2009
BP Solar and Petra Solar have announced they are to further extend their collaboration. The new scheme would see the companies market utility grade, pole-mounted solar systems as well as continuing their ongoing development of module products for other applications and markets.
BP Solar and Petra Solar performed extensive testing and evaluation of the integration of Petra Solar’s SunWave Smart Energy Module technology and products with BP Solar’s modules. In a statement both companies said they will continue testing as part of their respective quality assurance and continuous reliability evaluations.
BP Solar president and CEO Reyad Fezzani commented “The current commercial deployment by PSE&G in New Jersey and our own testing establishes that Petra Solar’s pole-mounted, SunWave AC Systems are utility grade and provide a compelling value proposition to electric utilities. We are now collaborating on a commercial supply agreement whereby Petra Solar will integrate BP modules as part of their SunWave system.”
BP Solar is a sub-division of BP Alternative Energy. It is a global company employing over two thousand staff worldwide. They design, manufacture and market products using the sun’s energy to generate electricity. They market to the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
Petra Solar are based in New Jersey and produce grid-tied, pole-mounted, distributed solar generation systems. The SunWave system combines solar energy with smart grid communications and electric grid enhancement functions to create a comprehensive utility grade solution for utilities.
Michelle Williams from Artemis Solutions Group who specialise in the energy sector comments “The joint venture seems to make a lot of sense. The industry has seen a number of strategic alliances where resources are being shared for customer and shareholder benefit”
