Glasgow opening of Waitrose Store
November 2009
On Thursday 12 November 2009, Waitrose will open its first store in Glasgow
The Byres Road outlet will be the retailer’s 220th shop.
Flowers and champagne will be presented to the first customer at the store and Waitrose branded pedi-cabs, parked outside the main entrance, will take shoppers home with their purchases.
Waitrose has recently revealed plans to build a 25,000 sq ft store in Newton Mearns, Scotland. The store will open by the end of 2010, creating 200 jobs subject to planning permission being granted.
According to Waitrose report there was strong growth for the half year ending 1 August 2009, with gross sales up by 7.4% to £2.18bn. Like-for-like sales growth for the half-year was 1.8%.
Michelle Williams from Artemis Solutions Group who specialise in recruiting for the Food and Beverages Sector says “The news of Waitrose opening yet another store shows that good policies and an optimistic outlook can work even in these troubled times.”
