Smart metering is a job creator

The Government recently announced plans for every home in Britain to be equipped with smart meters by the end of 2020.

This is good news for consumers: by letting consumers see exactly how much energy they’re using by day, week, month and year, many will make savings of 10 per cent or more on their energy bills. Just turning off the TV at night, for instance, instead of keeping it on standby, saves 15p every day – over £50 a year.

It’s also good news for energy companies. Because smart meters remotely record gas and electricity use in homes, there will no longer be a need for meter readers. This will mean huge savings for the energy suppliers. And it’s good news for employment prospects.

The energy suppliers have the responsibility to install the meters – which represents the biggest energy project in homes since British Gas converted appliances in 17 million houses in the 1970s.

Michelle Williams, MD of Artemis Solutions Group, comments: “Energy is one of our key sectors, and we are currently working with a number of leading companies involved in this project. Naturally, the scale of the work means considerable career opportunities. Our unrivalled contacts make us the ideal practice to source outstanding talent and to match individuals with the best career opportunities.”
